Research Request Information and Form
Effective July 1, 2007, special requests for research to be conducted by Photo Archives staff must be submitted in advance using this form. Please be as succinct as possible to maximize use of the limited staff research time available.
There is no charge for initial consultation with staff to determine if the Photo Archives has the resources available for your needs.
Upon acceptance of a research project, staff time is billed at $15 for 30 minutes plus postage. Patrons will receive, via US Postal Service or e-mail, a written response to specific questions with up to ten photocopies of images identified from the collection. However, we can not guarantee that photographic material related to patron requests will be found in the archive. Due to the volume of research it may take several weeks to respond to your request.
To pay fees using Mastercard or Visa please provide information via phone. Please do not e-mail credit card information.
Patrons are also encouraged to visit the Photo Archives or contact the Photo Archives via e-mail with succinct questions. There is no charge to work on-site with Photo Archives staff using the subject file index to the collection. Photo Archives staff will provide up to 1 hour of research assistance on-site. Additionally there is a searchable online database of images available at digitized collections.
The Photo Archives is a collection of historic photographs. Most material is available as high quality digital scans and digital prints, for editorial reproduction and use in advertising, publishing, media projects, and TV news media stories for reasonable imaging and use fees. It is the responsibility of the archive to present images as they are. Images are not retouched; nor does staff engage in fine art or custom printing of images. The Photo Archives does not allow patrons to scan or digitally photograph material onsite. Please see above links for current fee schedule and other policy guidelines.
